Did you know that I wanted to be a photographer?

That’s not quite true. I’ve always wanted to be a writer, but photographer was always my second choice. I think of it as the path not taken, and sometimes that makes me sad.

I think I have a great eye.

People often ask me what kind of camera I use. They mean this as a compliment. I want to respond, “The kind that has me behind it.” Because the fact is that you can have the exact same equipment as me and you will still never take the same photographs. Yours might be better than mine. They might not. But they will be different.

(For the record, I use a waterproof Canon point and shoot and I love it. But I prefer a film SLR.)

I found that on Pinterest. I can’t find attribution for the graphic itself, but I did find the photographer’s website. He is deceased but it seems that his wife has carried on the business.

I’d say having decent equipment certainly helps, judging by the difference between my first convention photohoots and subsequent ones over the past few years (taken by a pro), but if you don’t have the talent for it, having the best camera in the world isn’t going to help. You have that talent, so as long as your camera does justice to that, it’s all good. Which it is. You take beautiful photos.

I take lousy photos. The camera is decent; the eye is reasonable. The hand is shaky. Crap.
