An author I greatly admire has announced that he is dying. (Give that a click, it’s a terrific read.)
Another writer has written a beautiful and personal tribute to Ellison (give that one a click, too), and is asking his fellow fans to consider donating to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund in honor of his life.
If you have to wonder whether Ellison is an artist, you have not read Strange Wine.

October 1, 2010 at 9:51amHadn’t heard this, that’s a shame. I still tell people that “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream” is arguably the most terrifying story I’ve ever read. And as an old school Trek fan, the stories of his behind-the-scenes battles w/ Roddenberry & Co. re: “The City on the Edge of Forever” are legendary.
I’d also recommend people read some of his interviews. (There are a few good ones over at The A.V. Club.) The guy could be a complete ass (I don’t feel it’s bad form to say so, since he would often call himself on it), but what a mind, and it was always entertaining to listen to him rant. Either Ellison or Pete Townshend is the best pop culture interview in my lifetime.
Thanks for the links, Annika, I’m going to read them now.
