Halloween Costumes, Part 1

Will and I realized yesterday that HOLY COW IT IS AUGUST which means there is LESS THAN THREE MONTHS to go until Halloween, the greatest holiday ever. As usual I am fraught with anguish over choosing the perfect costumes for the family. And today I had an idea! It means yet another year of not making Sam dress up as Robin Hood (I’ve wanted to do that since he was born and for heaven’s sake why don’t I just make him the costume for the dress-up box?) but that is okay because he will FLIP OUT.

I am going to make Sam a Batman costume and Grace a Superman/Supergirl costume. BUT WHICH ONE? I figure I’ll knit woolies as the bottom half of her costume. I can do longies to look like Superman’s costume (yellow ribbing, red–um–crotch, blue legs, and red cuffs) or I can do a Supergirl skirty (yellow ribbing, red skirt, blue underpants).

On the one hand, skirty. DUH. On the other hand, autumn. Even in Los Angeles, longies would be super-practical. What do you thiiiiiiink?

And! I get to sew capes for both kids! YAY!!!

Incidentally, you should know that I do have a back-up plan:

starwarshalloween

Sam’s cape will even cross over.

Dude. The R2D2 hat is the best thing ever.

If it were me, I’d knit the skirty (and I live in New England). Still practical, especially with legwarmers. But I don’t need much reason to knit ruffles.

Seeing this makes me jealous that my SIL has basically taken over my Halloween planning indefinitely. Since she’s a professional seamstress, I feel I can’t really complain, but still…

I love how Grace is pushing Vader’s buttons.

I’m glad to know that I’m not the only who starts planning Halloween months in advance – unfortunately, I don’t do that as consistently for Christmas ;)

I know you have a theme, so this is entirely not helpful: but you can totally make a Robin Hood costume for Gracie.
