BETTER NOW
In the past 24 hours:
- Will won a two night stay in a suite at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
- Will sent off his first round of agent queries for his novel.
- Will received his first request for the full manuscript of his novel.
- Sam and I spent the afternoon with Andrea and kids, who (due to their summer vacation and my hermitude) we have not seen since Sam’s birthday in May. I got to talk to a grown-up who is not part of my family (and who fed me great food!), Sam got to play with two of the kids he worships most in the world, and it was all-around good. And…
- Andrea offered to take care of Sam so Will and I can go to Vegas alone if we want to. Though that gives us a hell of a time limit to get there before Otter. (We don’t know yet what sort of black out dates our free stay comes with, so I have no idea if this will even be possible. But it’s SO nice to have the option.)
So it’s safe to say my mood has improved just a liiiiiiiiiiiitle bit. It’s funny how quickly I can go from envy and resentment to complete joy about Will’s advancing career when I don’t have one, but not really surprising. In my heart I truly want him to succeed, but when I am feeling down and sorry for myself it is easy to get mixed up about my own lack of success. Not something I like about myself but not something I’m going to beat myself up over either.
Unrelated: the boys are playing Six Flags Fun Park right now and the music is really awesome and Elfman-esque.
Not entirely unrelated: if you were going to make a cake for Nova, what kind would you make?

Is that cake question a trick question? Because I would say, “Pie!”

Not a trick question! Pie would be for Nova’s husband Erik.

I live in Las Vegas. You can stay for free at my house any time you want, but it’s significantly less nice than Caesar’s Palace.

I sometimes feel the same way about my hubby’s successes–I’m not proud of it but it is what it is. Glad you are feeling a little better.
And we have managed to stay home with our children which is a huge success.

Annika, no need for cake, silly!
I am intensely excited about certain things. I mean Caesar’s Palace, hello! Awesome and more awesome. Oh, and I’m excited about that other thing as well.
I really believe good things are coming your way, too. Don’t get down. Everyone has a different path and timetable — I hate facing up to that, but it’s shown itself to be true at least in my life. I wish E and I could have had success at the exact same moment, but I think we’re taking turns. Same with you guys, I suspect. Your turn is coming!

Nova, I think you have overlooked a very important aspect of this cake thing: you are 2,794 miles away from me. If I make you a cake, I might have to eat it for you.

Awesomeness all around!
But yeah if you make that cake for Nova, you are going to eat it yourself. Bake brownies — they are totally shippable!

My favouritist cake in the whole world is German Chocolate Cake. It is the only cake I would ever choose over PIE.
I am sure that Vegas will realize that you need it before Otter makes an appearance. Vegas is totally like that.

Oooops, I know I am a bit late, but go, Will! That’s brilliant news. I hope you can fit Vegas in somewhere.
