A Few Things

What the heck, I’ll put this in list form.

  • I know this is way TMI for some of you, and will necessitate google for others (who will most likely then cry TMI), but. Sam likes colostrum.
  • I was all set to do a big batch of canning, making pickles and stuff, this week. I borrowed a book on small batch canning from the library. I determined that my pasta pot will work for a canner. I made a list of everything I needed. And then I could not find mason jars. Of course, I have one million jars at home, but you have to have fresh lids. SIGH. So this week I will be making some refrigerator pickles.
  • The Pea Pod sweater is coming along beautifully. It is now apparent that the yarn behaved so badly because it wanted to be this sweater. IT COULD HAVE EMAILED ME OR SOMETHING.
  • I can carry three children at once. Heck, I probably could have managed a fourth on my back, but there wasn’t one handy.
  • Yesterday we went to the library. Actually, we went to two libraries. The local branch to pick up my canning book and drop off some other books, and downtown to pick up some books for Will. The main library was having a huge book sale and I got two Halloween books (one is The 13 Days Of Halloween, like The 12 Days of Christmas, and the other is crafts for kids), a novel for Will, a book for my friend’s kids, and a book from a Time Life series that I seem to be collecting, all for $3.25. Then we stopped at a yard sale and I got Moosewood’s low-fat cookbook for a dollar. Apparently I am worried that we might run out of books.
  • I am trying out that meal planning idea this week. I have a list of meals we like and bought appropriate ingredients. I’ll let you know how it goes. Honestly, I’m a little bit nervous about planning ahead like this.
  • My current favorite Sam thing: for the last several weeks he has been singing along to his favorite movies. To the score. It is so awesome.

OK, we’re off to help Shelby move in with Briana. Hope your weekend is as lovely as mine.

i wish we lived closer so we could can together. can you even imagine the fun of two pregnant ladies canning?

i’ve been feeling really guilty about never planning out a weekly menu lately. i go to the grocery store at least once a day, and usually plan dinner at 4:30pm when we’re all starting to get hungry and cranky. so i’m interested to see how your menu planning goes.

meal planning is a bitch. Once you’ve conquered it, you can move on to Advanced Meal Planning which includes knowing how to buy/cook enough to have leftovers including the night when each family member has a different kind of leftover. good times

also, number 1 was not TMI but answered a curiosity I had back when I first got pregnant and had just recently weaned (and never had to find out because when she weaned, she meant it). And also totally made me laugh, not cringe. Which in itself is probably TMI on my end.

Laurie–yeah, I know, but I couldn’t find those either. Besides, we drink out of the jars we have, so I might as well buy the whole thing. IF I CAN FIND THEM.

Georgia–me too! With our little redheads playing together. OMG.

B–I’ve never managed to cook anything that didn’t make leftovers, so I should be good there. I think I have always cooked for the family we’re still working on making. And the colostrum thing is just weird, because it had been over a month since he’d even asked to nurse and probably two months since I’d let him (for a while he was asking about once a week, but taking no for an answer without argument). Then last week he asked and I said sure and it actually worked! And he asked again today which prompted me to mention it.

OSH on Sunset has them! I’d call first to be sure, but they did earlier in the summer. Happy canning!

All of the Stater Brothers out here carry a full line of Ball canning products. Are there any Stater Brothers in LA?

Okay, you’re kind of cheating with carrying the third child. I mean, it didn’t require arms or nothing.

Do you know if the sale at the downtown library is going to be on for a while?

I have no idea about the sale. It might have been Saturday only but there’s nothing about it on the website as far as I can tell.
