Vintage Photo Fiday: Wedding Guests

Remember my Grammy? This photo was taken at her wedding to my Grandpa, Robert Arthur Lee, sometime around 1948 or 49. (Once again I have failed to get the proper information before posting. Gah. In my defense, they are divorced so it isn’t an anniversary I’d have any reason to know.)

I don’t know who these guests are. Most likely Lee relations. I thought it would be fun to make up stories about them. Won’t you play along? Make up a story about one or more of the people in the picture and post it in the comments. Best one wins… well, not a prize but certainly my undying affections. You can click the picture to enlarge it.

I am fairly certain, but necessarily correct about the following:

It was 1949. (Grammy was 19)

The woman in the flowery dress, standing in the foreground, may be our great grandmother Louise Hoyt Froment Runk, who graduated from my alma mater in 1927.

The trio of seated ladies would make a great photograph/short story all on their own.

The lady standing in the dark dress, up stage of possibly-Louise, staring down the cameraman and smiling (smirking?), looks to be related to Grandpa. That shaped face doesn’t appear on Grammy’s side of the family to my knowledge.

It’s the three seated women that I most want a story for. Or several. They are GREAT! And I agree, the woman in the dark dress is definitely a Lee. And she knew that photo was being taken.

The woman in the dark dress is you Annika! Time travel has become possible and you decided to crash your Grammy’s wedding. Just because you can and you had the perfect vintage dress in you closet.

the woman to the left in the dark dress? the one with NO PUPILS? MY WIFE HAS PUPILS!!! That, whatever that is, is some sort of thing. Or just a very young person with cataracts.

Actually, I’m pretty sure the lady with the purse is Aunt Alva, one of Grammy-Great’s sisters. I’ve always wanted to know what was up with the seated ladies and who that man is looking at. I wish I’d been a fly on the wall (or tree as the case may be). The local is probably Washington DC where Grammy’s parents lived. I think I remember that yard.

I’m sorry Will, but I have to agree with Natalie. That is clearly Annika. You just don’t understand that one of the side effects of time travel is temporary pupil disintegration. Fortunately, pupils come back on return trips, which is why you’ve never noticed this yourself.

naw, that isn’t Kathleen Turner, it’s that American Actress who is always playing loud annoying American women on British TV during the 90s. What the hell was her name…

The woman on the far left is a spy. She avoids being photographed at all costs. She is after the woman in the front who is most likely smuggling secret documents not to mention piles of diamonds in her purse. The guy in the middle is wondering when the damn food is to be served.

“The moment Herb turned his back, Eloise hastily lit a cigarette. Her austere husband frowned on her habit and although Eloise desperately wanted to avoid his criticisms, the strain of listening to the overly-blonde, floppy-hatted Cynthia’s expert opinions on subjects she obviously knew nothing of were beyond bearing.”

no witty dialogue here. i just wanted to say that those hats are amazing. too bad women in our society don’t wear hats anymore. i could just imagine the looks i’d get if i wore a hat like that in public! but they really look so sophisticated.

I think that is Grampa Lee lurking behind the tree.
