Halloween Loot Bag

I decided a while ago to make a candy bag for Sam, and today I realized that, um, I’d better do it pretty soon. I’d briefly toyed with the idea of making one to match his costume, perhaps knitted, but I decided I vastly preferred to make one he can use for years to come. I had some Halloween-themed fabric scraps that I’d bought at a yardsale, and this seemed like the perfect use. I used the simple tote pattern from Bend-the-Rules Sewing as my guide, and although it took hours when I could have finished it in twenty minutes by myself, I am terribly pleased with it. Even if one of the straps did get twisted somewhere between pinning it in place and sewing it (how, I do not know).

That’s awesome! Now I want one! (Sadly, I passed the age at which I could realistically pass as trick-or-treater about 10 years ago.)

Very nice! You reminded me that I wanted to do the same for my girls. They usually used plastic pumpkins, but I wanted something a little better. And I thought I didn’t have any fabric to use, but I just checked and I have do have some good possibilities! Now I just need to get the energy and motivation.

Stephanie’s last blog post..Harper can do this (no training wheels), and Irina can do that.

[...] Fortunately I thought ahead for costumes. My sister is in the SCA and when I saw a photo of her gorgeous Viking-style Apron Dress I knew I wanted one. She very generously offered to make me one, with a Viking tunic for Sam (my two-and-a-half-year-old) and one for his Dolly. I knitted little Viking Helms for Sam and Dolly to wear, and a lace smoke ring (aka wimple, cowl) for myself. (Of course, it is five thousand degrees in Los Angeles. I am hoping the temperature will drop by Friday.) Most exciting (for me), I sewed up a little tote bag from Halloween fabrics for Sam to use as a candy bag. [...]
