I knew he was only pretending not to talk.

This morning I stubbed my toe. I yelled. Sam looked taken aback. I explained, “That really hurt.”

He said, “You hurt yourself.”

I AM NOT KIDDING. (And I really am almost certain that’s what he said. I keep trying to convince myself I heard wrong, but… I really don’t think I did.)

Then I asked him to kiss it. He leaned over but dissolved into giggles in mid-kiss. I think kissing my sock was just too much. He laughed for a minute, then kissed my leg, leaning his head on it afterwards.

Sam is so utterly, totally AWESOME.

    Poor toe. *blows kisses*

No words… I think Sam stole them!

Yeah, isn’t it crazy? I think they know so much more than we can see. Jack has told me “I love you” twice now. The first time, of course, I think it was a fluke. He also started saying, “Bye to you” and I am starting to think there are quite a few sentences that I can’t make out because I don’t know the context (I suspect he is learning at daycare). I love toddler speech!

Awesome! As my grandma tells it, one of my uncles didn’t speak a word beyond “Mama” and “Daddy” until he was almost three years old — at which point he began speaking in complete, complex sentences. Maybe Sam’s just not much for the verbal interaction yet.

Of course Sam can really talk. With his genetic makeup, he was bound to be articulate. And compassionate. And also adorable!

I just realized that my comment didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Just ignore the dumb parts. :P

    He’s too adorable for words.

    oh the cuteness!
My sister didn’t talk for years. i would “help” and interpret what she wanted, “Meg would like some ice cream. me too.” etc. Or whatever I happened to want at the time. Finally, when she was three, she said her first words, very firmly, “I don’t want any.”

Apparently I didn’t start off saying “Mum” and “Dad”. I spoke whole sentences from the word go.

Maybe Sam will start quoting Shakespeare ad mauseam any day now.
