bloggy stuff

I checked Akismet today (as I have to do frequently because no matter how many times I tell it CosmicAvatar is a real person it insists on dumping her comments in the spam filter — anyone else having comments get lost?)…where was I? Oh yes. I checked Akismet today and discovered that I have been getting spam in Italian. It appears to be very friendly, for whatever that’s worth.

I know it’s Italian because it opens, “Bon giorno!”

I know it’s spam because five gazillion links follow a sentence or two of Italian.

dday_button_copy.jpgIn other news, it is National Delurking Week! So please, leave a comment.

If you’ve never commented before (or even if you’re a regular commenter), I’d like to know something about you. Where do you live? Do you have a blog? How did you find mine?

Um, or something less lame.

What if you won the Publishers Clearing House Prize in Italian…and you missed it??!!?

I think you should pump those words into an online translator and figure out what it means.

Delurking to say hi from Garvanza, on the Highland Park/South Pasadena border! I found you via Metroblogging LA, I believe.

Hi, I’m Laura. I am from Connecticut, currently live in Taipei, Taiwan as an English teacher and I’m moving to Boston in 2 months for grad school.

I don’t entirely remember how I found your blog, but I have a feeling it has to do with knitting…!

I’m delurking, but, you already know I’m here, so it’s not much of a delurk. Any good mail come yet? I’m dying over here that it might be lost….

Hi, I’m Jamie. Delurking myself and whatnot. And your blog makes me smile. I am also Mike Sweeney’s girlfriend.

I have never lurked. Well, sort of.

The most skilful thing I have ever done is break one yoghurt pot off a four-pack.

    Hi! I’m Andrea.
I’m your cousin (but you knew that).
My brother put me onto your blog, and somewhere around that time I started my own…not that I say much on it.
I work for an independent phone book publisher. BellSouth cries at the sound of our company name. *evil laughter*
My husband may have a new job soon, but with that comes repayment of his master’s degree to the previous company. *ouch!*

Tonight I am going to make a second attempt to meet the Yarn Harlot in person.

That’s about the most interesting thing I have going on right now.

    a) I live in Edinburgh, Scotland. I think you’d like it, a lot, and you’re always more than welcome to visit.
    2) I like vodka with pineapple juice.
    d) I don’t have a blog because I am the world’s most easily bored person, and would give it up after about a minute, but your blog entertains me.
Fifthly) Out of my window right now I can see where they used to burn witches. Not a nice fact, but an interesting one.

I am Katy. I live in Nottingham, UK, where I am currently trying to do a PhD while contemplating giving it all up to live in a yurt with my own yak.

I have a blog which I update relatively infrequently. Feel free to visit, I am very welcoming.

I have to go now to do lesson plans on the Neolithic Balkans. I hate my life sometimes.

Hi. Among comments, you also receive stream-of-consciousness emails from me occasionally. I found you through my sister- who is only here for the food. Me, while I truely admire and covet your knitting, I like that there Sam boy. He’s a keeper.

Hi Annika! I’ve read and commented for a few years now so I’m not really delurking but I thought I would say hello anyway.

I live in Oklahoma City, and work in supplements at a health food store and take a lot of photos every day. I wish I could just take photos all day long and not play doctor for crazy people, but that’s another story.

I don’t even really remember how I found you, but probably back in the day when I was keeping my own blog regularly (which I keep saying that I’m going to do again, because I miss it, instead of half-assedly writing in livejournal.) I was drawn to your writing because you seem like the kind of person I’d like to be friends with in real life. You’re smart and funny and talented and I like reading about the adventures of Annika, Will, and now, Sam.

    Happy belated delurking day! ;)

I’ve been lurking a lot, since probably before Christmas, so I wanted to say sorry for not being a better stalkee. I read often, and I’m sorry I don’t comment more.

Also, I really, really liked your colo(u)red streaks in the first picture of the post below this one. I know you don’t have them anymore, but I thought they were pretty neat.

Finally, whenever I knit – especailly, for some reason, when I’m casting on – I think of you. And Cassy and Jess, too. It makes me smile. :)

I’ll always be around! :) xxx

Hi, I’m Ellen…I live in the neighborhood. I comment ALLLLLL the time and am part of the WeHo SnB knit/crochet Ring…but you knew that!

I’m impressed that you have commenters from across the nation and in Europe. You’re so continental!

Wie geht’s! i have a new answer from last year – or, for that matter, last week: i really do live in now. (Weird random parts of the internet have realized this, and are coming up deutsche, and i’m all verstehe’d out. eek) something about me: liz is not Rocky. This morning i translated the orange juice as having egg white in it because it is off-brand Aldi orange juice, but i so, so hope it was just because i was sleepy. (Seriously: what’s eiweiS, then, and why is it in my oj?)

    January 9, 2007 at 4:38pm

Liz, thanks to babelfish, I can answer your question! Egg White = Eiweiß = protein

Guess that would be a random fact about me… I love to look things up either just to know them or to tell other people about them (or is that tell other people just how much I know?). Either way, brain for trivia, this one.

    January 9, 2007 at 5:26pm

Hey girl– so here’s me delurking, as it were. I love your blog and I feel your pain! I ran across your site while googling for info on the WeHo SnB (which I joined over the weekend, so hopefully I will be there on Thursday– yes, I know I say this as if it were out of my control, but you haven’t met my boss). Your use of punctuation and capitalization is SO refreshing, thank you! And your heartfelt posts speak to me (so much so that this is the first time EVER I have posted a comment on a blog– alright, ok, shy of the one I just posted on the Yahoo SnB-LA site introducing myself, per the welcome e-mail’s request, but I guess you could say that this is the first time EVER I have posted a comment of my own volition). Anyhoo– I too once wore single digit sized clothing. Yes,… a long time ago… perhaps in another life… or an alternate universe. I can’t be sure now– the memories grow foggy (perhaps gratefully so, since I now wear 14 bottoms and my breasts are yet to shrink from the 38 F they swelled to during pregnancy four years ago). I don’t write this to discourage you– everyone else I’ve met seems to have managed to lose their baby weight upon discontinuing nursing. Um, whatever bitches. However, not only did I completely relate to your body hate feelings, but we’re broke too! So I’m completely relating to your feelings of desperation. Even though, as you said of Will, Mark too is the BEST and everyone should have one, he also seems to be on the unemployment agency’s black list. It all just sounded too familiar. And is it legal for creditors to call on a Sunday morning at 8?! The one freakin day my 4-year-old slept past 7?! But I digress– I was actually posting to let you know I speak Italian, so I’m happy to take a look at that spam you got. Chin up– it helps lessen the neck folds. As my mother-in-law so bolsteringly (not) says to me– this too shall pass. Really?! When? Because I could really use something to look forward to.

The last time I had my hair cut was in a dog grooming shop. The groomer stopped trimming a St. Bernard, cut my dead ends off, and returned to the dog.*

*It’s possible that this is MORE lame rather than less.

Annika – I am a US chick living in Australia and you left my first ‘non-friend’ comment on my blog this week! So, you will always be at the top of my blog-land list! I have left one comment on yours so far, so I guess this I am not quite a lurker. Anyhoo – I love your blog. You always make me laugh my ass off. I am trying to learn to knit and I lived in LA from 98-02 so I live vicariously through you a bit where the city is concerned. And I use WordPress! Word to yo mama!!!

I live in the frozen wastes of Wisconsin, except that they’re not frozen this year. My herb garden has started to grow again, if you can believe that (which you shouldn’t, because it’s just wrong in so many ways).

I have a blog. It’s probably the world’s most neglected blog, but I have one none the less.

I’m obsessed with baking; I’ve made bread every day save one this year so far.

  25. Hades

    January 9, 2007 at 10:22pm

Delurking, as requested. I’m Ken, better known online as Hades because I’m a mythological nerd, or was once upon a time. I found your blog through the WD where I post albeit very infrequently nowadays. I also have my own blog on livejournal, which is mostly boring because I update that site irregularly as well.
I’m currently living in my hometown of Pittsburgh Pa and am looking for a job as an attorney. I passed the PA bar in July and I’m becoming very irritated that I don’t have a steady job yet. I’m not that good at waiting, ya see.
When I’m not out job hunting I do work as a stagehand constructing rock concerts and theater showns around the area. The hours suck but the job is fun.
Thanks for making me delurk! I’ll try and comment more.

I think I delurked last year around this time or something. I don’t remember. Something about me: I love crafts and have tried just about everything out there. I am mediocre at all of them because I get bored halfway through since I lack the motivation to learn more and excell further.

I’m Eileen and I’m a Scot living in London, but desperately trying to get back to Scotland. Which you should totally visit, it’s very pretty. But only when I’m there.

My commenting has been pretty slack of late, but rest assured that I check here almost every day and read all of your posts. And, for extra stalkery goodness, I read your posts on as well! Scared yet?

While I’m not a lurker, thought I’d pop my head in and say hi. I’ve been trying to be better about actually commenting on the people’s blogs that I read daily. Feels so stalkerish sometimes though, you know?

Anyway. I met you ages ago at Powell House, but didn’t find your blog until i don’t know, maybe a year or so ago, maybe more, before you were pregnant anyway, and I believe it was because you left a comment on Liz’s blog. Or perhaps she had googled you or something and was excited to have found you. Either way, I’m glad that she did, as it’s been a delight to read and share a little in your life.

I have a sorely neglected journal, which you know about, but that hasn’t been updated in waaaay too long. Going to see about fixing that one of these days. I live in san francisco, and just this week started knitting my first lace project. WOOO for the former knitting noob/crocheter.

Hello! I live in Alberta, Canada. I can’t remember how I found your blog – a link, or a comment? A search? It may well have to do with knitting. I have a blog but I neglect it shamefully and it mostly has illustration stuff in it, not much writing. I keep another blog but it’s on a private site because I’m paranoid about anyone I know in real life finding/reading it. I was aiming for less lame, but I think I came in below the mark.

    *I’m Shannon
*I currently live in Asheville, NC… also dubbed as: “She-Ville,” “Ashefrancisco,” and “AsheVegas.” I think my all time fave is “French Riviera of the South.”
*Prior to moving here I lived in Southern Oregon. Before that the Bay Area (SanFran) – I miss the west coast. sigh.
*I don’t (for the life of me) recall how I stumbled upon your lovely, well written blog. I love you writing, and feel I’d be all over you for crafty friendship if we were to ever cross paths, uh, lived in the same county.

My name is Stephanie. Hi! You know me!

I ran into your blog searching for “Pregnancy Blogs” in Google. The day I visited, you were probabably 6 months pregnant (me about 3 months pregnant) and had a cute lil’ belly shot picture. I’ve been visiting daily (sometimes twice daily) for almost a year!

Also, I dig mint cookies and bald men. How’s that for lame?

Hi! I’m from Ontario and I’ve been reading your blog nearly a year now. I’ve been wanting to comment, but I’m a little shy. I found your blog through my friend Angela (Podgy) who thought I’d be interested since I was also pregnant and planning a home birth like you (sadly I also wound up in the hospital, but with a c-section). My son was born a few weeks after Sam, on June 6th. I really enjoy reading your blog, and hopefully now that I’ve commented once I’ll do it more in the future!

CosmicAvatar exists?! My God, we’re in trouble. You can’t have celestial beings made flesh running around. Think of the repair bills!
