Spam o’ the Day

I love this one.

Name: Alvin | E-mail: Alvin@gameburn.org | URI: http://gameburn.org | IP: 72.232.183.102 | Date: December 8, 2006

When is it bad weather why do people get insane???
I have noticed , that anytime it rains, or there is a freeze, the public panics, rushes out to the stores and buy up all the
bottled water, batteries, flash lights, firelogs, and canned food. Why is this. You would think people that have been through
this kinda weather before would understand that it will not last more than a day or two at the most.
Another thing I have noticed is when it rains that all the dumb people again get on the roads and cause wrecks and everything
else.
What is wrong with the people? I would really like to know.

Me too, Alvin. Me too.

I’m very confused with a new breed of spam I’ve been getting – with the story that has obviously already started.

But I am also very impressed to see how many people found my name when doing a google search for an “honorable, trustworthy Canadian”. And that is why they’d like me to help them bring $13109827809 into Canada.

it’s a nifty little loophole in the spam filtering software… put up enough “storyline” and it offsets the spam count. So mentioning “mortgage loan” in an email is like 5 points, enough to be considered spam. Throw in a passage from Moby Dick and now the spam count is watered down by the overall ratio.

Pretty soon we will have to block 100% of our emails and comments only to allow someone to email us directly after they have called us personally to tell us they want to send us an email. :)

    Ok. Enough unsolicited nerd stuff.

I love that spam! If only Alvin really existed. He sounds like a sensitive, thoughtful person. Did he also give you links to porn-star pre-teen lesbians in gi-strings from thailand?

Isn’t Earthlink doing that already? They have a hefty spam blocker that requires people to request “admission”. Once the person on the other end OKs it, you’re golden for future emails.

Yeah, what the hell is that all about? I shun people who have earthlink email addys. It’s a big enough pain to keep in touch, even with email (hee hee), but then to have to jump through hoops to get you to read my emails? Sheesh.

AOhelL does the same thing (whitelisting they call it).

Ah, who am I kidding. Most of my emails end up in the spam filter trashcan just because I bug the crap out of people with my pet projects: http://www.AdoptThisMovie.com. Or because I send pics of my newly born daughter to them and it filters them thinking they are pre-teen porn or something. Sigh… I love technology.

Seriously, I know a guy who created his own gatekeeper screener. It sends you a not quite so polite automated response that if you aren’t on his list of approved email buddies that you can promptly take a walk into a nearby lagoon of unknown depth. Funny thing is that he added me to this list of approved buddiness, but yet I still get the cold shoulder from his automated lackey.

    Go figure.
