I’ve been getting the saddest SPAM lately. I know — sad spam? Yes, really. At least, it makes me sad. Again, I know — really? Yes.
An example:
“This blog is great!” — trustedarticles.com
Akismet caught dozens of others from commenters who started out, “I love your site!” or similar, and that isn’t counting the hundreds of variants on “Great site! Visit mine: [insert string of URLs here].” Several of the comments also said, “I’m definitely bookmarking you!” In fact, when I got a real comment that said that, I almost deleted it without thinking.
Who doesn’t want to hear that visitors love their blog? The spammers are just plain mean.

December 8, 2006 at 9:10amI’ve had some of those in my guestbook, so many that I don’t pay attention any more. It’s better than the spammers who have taken over YouTube. I must get 500 “HOT SEX SITES” emails a day. I’m a 63 year old woman. Do I look like someone who is interested in a hot sex site?

December 8, 2006 at 10:11amAnnika, check out some of the plugins that WordPress offers. I hardly get any spam anymore, only the occassional annoying trackback advertising blue pills for “strong like bull” reactions. ;)

December 8, 2006 at 10:23amAkismet is great and catches 99% of my spam — but I check it every so often to make sure it hasn’t eaten a real comment (it sometimes does). So that’s how I found these.
But “strong like bull” sounds intriguing…

December 8, 2006 at 1:13pmI used to get abusive spam, saying that my posts were wrong and my site sucked (a bit more subtly than that, actually, but still abusive), and I railed at the computer. I take it as my comeuppance that now I get spam that tells me how great my post was. *sigh*

December 8, 2006 at 2:16pmI added “Bad Behavior” to my WP. I haven’t gotten any spam yet. :crossing finger: Then again, my blog is not that popular.
Bad Behavior is on WP’s plugin list here, third one down:

Isn’t that beautiful spam?
